QUEER, ILL, & OKAY, a performance series, which explores the intersections of queerness and living with HIV and other forms of mental and chronic illness. QUEER, ILL, & OKAY acts as a catalyst calling together queer communities that confront, engage, and elevate new narratives through emerging and experimental performance.
featuring a powerful assembly of CHICAGO-based queer artists such as queer youth theatre mentor and former ABOUT FACE THEATRE education director, SARA KERASTAS, hip hop artist and renowned author of RED DIRT REVIVAL, TIM’M WEST, neo-futurist alumni and co-host of PBS’ LOVE of QUILTING, MARY FONS, NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY’S QUEERGASM featured artist DIRTY GRITS, biomedical engineer and artistic director of THE DANCE TEAM CHISTOPHER KNOWLTON, national burlesque performer CRUEL VALENTINE, essayist PATRICK GILL, as well as multidisciplinary artist and founder of queer arts collective 3rd LANGUAGE, NIC KAY.
QUEER, ILL, & OKAY artist SARA KERASTAS captures the essence of this project in an interview, “why is art important? why is political art important? why is identity driven art important? because it connects us.” posing compelling questions and essential conversations about how we as a community respond to HIV and other forms of mental and chronic illness within the queer community are invaluable to progress.
