CHICAGO’S 1st NO LIGHTS NO LYCRA ‘DANCE JAM IN THE DARK’
at DEFIBRILLATOR
THANK YOU for being a part of this global movement.
NO LIGHTS NO LYCRA is a weekly dance party in the dark. NLNL is an international movement to create environments where people can completely let go and shake out their stresses in a friendly, non-threatening, drug and alcohol-free environment.
NLNL began in MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, in 2009, founded by unruly dance students ALICE GLENN and HEIDI BARRETT. now NLNL dance nights run across AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, EUROPE, UK, US and CANADA. it has grown mainly through word of mouth into a community who share a passion for this experience.
NLNL has no mandate, no teacher, no steps to learn, no technique – just free movement. with the lights turned off, everyone can dance like no one is watching. both NLNL and DEFIBRILLATOR share a passion for providing a gathering place to experiment with, explore, and experience liberated physical movement.
in a club or a bar, the objective is disorientation- through the sonic boom, flashing lights and alcohol. NLNL is about orientation- finding your feet, the space, your connection to the music and the bodies around you.
NLNL CHICAGO dancer, ANDY
this is a pure & spiritual experience, releasing that urge to shake and doing it without the social nuances of dancing in public.
