Join us for one of our most popular nights at Defibrillator as artists, arts administrators, local business owners, and friends lip sync to raise funds for our annual international festival, Rapid Pulse. Recontextualizing what is known as a drag entertainment form, we’ve encouraged the invited performers to riff on or rethink the concept of lip sync. The results are pretty amazing.
RAPID PULSE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL 2016 is a five day marathon of performance art at Defibrillator Gallery in the Noble Square neighborhood of Chicago. The first five days in June, twenty-five international, national, and local LIVE performance artists will present their work in the streets, in the windows, and in the gallery. Each day will also feature a video series of performances for the camera. Yearly, Chicago audiences embrace this unique opportunity to witness performance art from around the world.
We aim to embrace the local and global simultaneously. For five days, a group of over FIFTY people (including artists, administrators, staff, and volunteers) will come together to contribute to an international conversation about performance art. We aim to provide opportunities for performance artists to build community and share their work with other artists, international curators, and respected academics.
Though well established and well respected, Rapid Pulse is a humble festival with a microscopic budget. We are a small group of people making large investments and sacrifices in order to champion the medium of performance art. Several fundraising efforts will take place, including our popular Lyp Sinc Show, our annual Bazaar, and our fancy Vernissage. We are actively seeking contributions and volunteers to help us in our quest.
2016 marks the fifth anniversary for Rapid Pulse. We quickly became known around the world as a small festival with a big heart. We have been lucky enough to show performances by Wafaa Bilal, Kira O’Reilly, Boris Nieslony, Zachary Drucker, Alastair McLennan, Manuel Vason, Sukran Moral and many others. Rapid Pulse is produced by Defibrillator Gallery. Founded in 2010, Defibrillator (a.k.a. DFBRL8R or dfb) is a 501(c)3 arts organization dedicated to fostering local makers while invigorating Chicago by bringing to the city artists of exceptional calibre from around the world. Focusing on ephemeral and time-based artistic practices, DFBRL8R 
contextualizes performance within visual art, embracing those who look to the body in concert and conversation with time, space, object, architecture, and society. DFBRL8R is a platform for underrepresented voices and time-based work that does not sit comfortably within pre- established genres or disciplines. Dynamic programming, decidedly fearless and unique, aims to provoke thought and stimulate discourse. We foster and contribute to a global dialog surrounding conceptual, ephemeral, or enigmatic forms of expression.
